How does PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) work
Concentrating the platelets from your blood delivers a high dose of growth factors to the treatment area. Once applied or injected, these growth factors switch on the body's repair cells and boost their number, amplifying its natural healing and renewal. In the skin this improves tone, texture and firmness over time, while in the scalp it supports thicker, healthier hair growth.
Platelets carry the growth factors the body uses to repair tissue. Concentrating and delivering them sets off a series of regenerative effects:
- Cell renewal — growth factors prompt local repair cells to multiply
- Collagen production — stimulates fresh collagen and elastin in the skin
- Improved blood supply — encourages new small vessels that nourish the tissue
- Follicle stimulation — in the scalp, signals resting hair follicles towards active growth

Patient Journey
What to expect

Consultation
Every PRP treatment begins with a consultation. Your practitioner assesses your skin or scalp concern, reviews your medical history and any medications or blood conditions that could affect treatment, discusses realistic results and the number of sessions, and agrees a plan before proceeding.

Preparation
- Stay well hydrated in the days before and drink water before your appointment, as this makes the blood draw easier
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours and caffeine on the day
- Pause non-essential blood thinners and anti-inflammatories for a few days where safe, as they can affect the platelets
- Avoid strong retinoids and exfoliating acids for a few days beforehand
- Eat a normal meal before your appointment

Treatment
Your practitioner will confirm your suitability, then take a small sample of your blood, much like a routine blood test. The sample is placed in a centrifuge and spun to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood. While this is prepared, the treatment area is cleansed and a numbing cream applied for comfort. The plasma is then injected into the skin or scalp, or applied alongside microneedling for the face. The appointment usually takes around forty-five minutes to an hour in total. An aftercare guide is provided before you leave.
