How does Lip Fillers work
Small amounts of filler are placed precisely within the lips and along the border, then gently shaped by the practitioner. The gel adds volume and structure while drawing in water to keep the lips soft and plump. Because lips are a mobile, sensitive area they tend to swell at first, so the true result settles over several days.
Hyaluronic acid enhances the lips in more than one way:
- Volume — adds fullness to the body of the lips where needed
- Hydration — draws in water to keep the lips plump and soft
- Definition — sharpens the lip border and the cupid's bow
- Balance — corrects asymmetry between the upper and lower lip or the two sides

Patient Journey
What to expect

Consultation
Every treatment begins with a consultation. Your practitioner assesses your lip shape, volume and symmetry, discusses the look you want and what will suit your face, reviews your medical history including any history of cold sores, and agrees the amount before proceeding.

Preparation
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment to reduce bruising
- Pause non-essential blood thinners for a few days where safe
- If you are prone to cold sores, tell your practitioner as preventive medication may be advised
- Arrive with clean lips, free of lipstick
- Avoid booking within two weeks of a major event, as lips swell initially

Treatment
After cleansing and applying numbing cream, filler is injected into the lips using a fine needle, and the practitioner shapes it carefully to build the volume and definition agreed. Most fillers also contain anaesthetic for comfort. You may feel pressure and the lips will begin to swell during treatment. The appointment usually takes around thirty minutes. Swelling is normal for the first day or two, and aftercare advice is provided before you leave.

Downtime & Recovery
1–3 days

Aftercare
- Expect swelling for the first 24 to 48 hours and use a cold compress gently if needed
- Avoid pressing, massaging or heavily kissing the lips for 24 hours
- Skip strenuous exercise, saunas and heat for 24 to 48 hours
- Avoid alcohol and very hot or spicy food for the first day
- Stay hydrated and avoid lipstick for the rest of the day
- Attend a review at two weeks if you would like an adjustment
