How does Botox for Excessive Sweating work

Once injected across the affected area, the toxin blocks the nerve signals that activate the sweat glands beneath the skin. Within a few days to a week those glands become inactive and sweating in the area drops substantially. Because the effect is localised, the body still regulates its temperature normally elsewhere.

Sweating is triggered by nerves that signal the sweat glands to activate. Botulinum toxin interrupts that pathway:

  • Nerve signal blockade — blocks the messenger that tells sweat glands to produce sweat
  • Gland deactivation — the treated glands become dormant in the injected area
  • Localised effect — only the treated region is affected, leaving the rest of the body's temperature control intact
  • Reversible action — as the effect wears off, normal gland function gradually returns
